Kenya in Provence

Woke up early, couldn't go back to sleep, decided to go and watch the sunrise somewhere. Caught it  standing at the pass between the villages of Le Barroux and La Roque Alric, some ten kilometres from my home. The sun was emerging from the southern slope of mount Ventoux. Below was a fairly civilised landscape of woods and vineyards but up there you could think you were in Kenya.

Looking a fraction more to the north-east from almost exactly the same spot.
Note: while this pass is a favorite among cycling enthusiasts in the region, there was no-one to be seen when I was up there around 7 am when I was there. No cars, no bikes. Despite the hot day to come, no early birds among cyclists apparently.

Awesome shot of 'Kenya'. Kilimanjaro bathed in sunlight. Fantastic time of day and wonderful to have it to yourself.

We Have never been to Africa outside of Egypt (and that was a long time ago) but I could absolutely believe this was taken on the plains of East Africa. Beautiful shot.

We're in Chicago on our way to Amsterdam. Then to Bremen, Germany, the region from which all of Carolyn's great grandparents emigrated, and lastly Berlin. Photo walks and dinners with S.C. and Hal Cyon on the schedule.

The chances of me getting up that early are small, but on Sunday we are going to try to get to the famous Fischmarkt in Hamburg, which runs from 5.00 to 9.30. Don't thing we'll be there for the opening bell.
